Baltazar Avelino; and Brgy. Mariana, District 4, Quezon City Punong Barangay Regina Celeste San Miguel led the groundbreaking ceremony.

The Gabay Kalikasan Park was formally launched during its groundbreaking ceremony held in Barangay Mariana, District 4, Quezon City on March 9, 2023.

The Gabay Kalikasan Park is part of the Memorandum of Agreement for the Building a Biodiversity Friendly Urban Development Project thru the Adopt-a-City scheme among the DENR-BMB, DENR-NCR, QC LGU and MPIC signed on March 15, 2022. The Adopt-a-City scheme is a collaborative-based strategy that encourages the private sector to support urban biodiversity projects such as the establishment of urban parks. This project is the first private-public partnership for Urban Biodiversity with the primary objective of managing green spaces to regain ecosystem services, increasing awareness, understanding and appreciation of the importance of urban biodiversity and inspiring other stakeholders to adopt a more biodiversity-friendly urban development.

The Gabay Kalikasan Park is expected to be inaugurated by the second quarter of 2023.
