Inland Wetland Conservation and Management Program

This program promotes the conservation, wise use, and effective management of inland wetlands such as freshwater swamps and marshes, lakes, peatlands, and rivers. Primary activities under this program include assessment and management of inland wetlands as well as human-made wetlands that are critical for biodiversity conservation.

Through this program, rare or unique inland wetlands and/or those rich in biodiversity are recognized for their international importance. To date, six of the eight Ramsar Sites features inland wetlands. This effort contributes to the maintenance of the ecological character of inland wetlands and help realize the Philippines' commitments to the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands as a Contracting Party. The Program also contributes to the realization of the conservation targets provided in the Philippine Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan 2015-2028, which identifies inland wetlands as one of the four ecosystems on focus.
