BMB conducts GBIF-IPT Training for the CHED-Funded PABIDACO Project at the
University of the Philippines – Baguio
The Biodiversity Management Bureau successfully conducted the Global Biodiversity Information Facility-Integrated Publishing Toolkit (GBIF-IPT) training last February 10-11, 2017 at the University of the Philippines-Baguio. Twenty six participants compose of professors and IT experts from the three higher educational institution (HEI’s) involved in the CHED-funded project “Popularizing Access to Biodiversity Information Data and Conservation Opportunities (PABIDACO) attended the 2-day training.
PABIDACO is a project undertaken by Benguet State University , St. Louis University and University of Baguio as the lead which is intended for the gathering and promotion of biodiversity information and conservation efforts in the Cordillera Autonomous Region. Participants from DENR-CAR and the National Commission on Indigenous People-CAR also attended the training.
The two day training-workshop conducted by the BMB-Informatics personnel emphasized the benefits of sharing data thru publishing and enhanced the participant’s skills in data transformation process, using the Darwin Core standard and publishing biodiversity data using the GBIF-IPT. Participants were assisted in the hands-on publishing of different classes of biodiversity data using a local IPT set-up.

The highlight of the training was the MOA signing between Biodiversity Management Bureau and UP-Baguio as the lead of the PABIDACO project . By signing the MOA, UP-Baguio became the 34th member of the Philippine Clearing House Mechanism (Phil-CHM) where BMB is the National Focal Point. The Phil-CHM serves as the central coordinating agency of BIOWEB.PH, a network of stakeholders form NGA’s, NGO’s and the academe. Assistant Director Antonio C. Manila signed for BMB while Chancellor Dr. Raymundo D. Rovillos signed the MOA for UP-Baguio. Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Dr. Corazon L. Abansi and other team members of the PABIDACO project witnessed the signing.
The partnership is aimed to strengthen the generation and organization of available biodiversity data at the Cordillera Autonomous Region that can assist the science-policy needs of the country.
